Decoupaged & My Leather Wallets...

Decoupaged leather wallet

Decoupage is the art of decorating an object or a surface with cutout paper from magazines or purposed-made papers for such. Purposed-made is the paper I prefer to use on my leather. Think of a very cool paper napkin, a napkin with very intricate or interesting graphics on them glued to the surface of the leather using adhesive mixtures and layers of protective water based acrylic coats. Once this process is applied to the leather I then cut my wallets, giving them a smooth look and great resistance for the task they are designed for.

This technique is very old and dates back to the 12th century. Honestly, I use to think of this method as a very old and kind of kitschy technique, but in practice it has resonated with me as a cool and unique medium. After a lot of trial and error, I was able to finally achieve that perfection of the surface and apply it to my Wallets, Card WalletsCoin Purses and Bi-Fold Wallets and I have to say they are looking good! They might not be for everyone but nor is our name. :)

I will be using decoupage leather either on complete pieces or just as an accent on some (not on everything relax..). Thank you all and stay tuned for more!
